St Ann’s Curriculum Intent

Computing

At St Ann’s our intention is to provide a high quality Computing Curriculum that equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We believe that it is an essential part of the curriculum; a subject that not only stands alone but also woven into other subjects and should be an integral part of all learning. Computing, in general, is a significant part of everyone’s daily life and children should be at the forefront of new technology, with a thirst for learning what is out there.

At St Ann’s, the core of computing is Computer Science in which children are introduced to a wide range of technology, including laptops, iPads and interactive whiteboards, allowing them to rejoice in their learning and continually practise and improve the skills they learn.  This ensures they become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology. At a level suitable to the future workplace and empower the children to be active participants in a digital world.

Throughout the curriculum, children will be given opportunities:

  • To understand and apply the essential principles and concepts of Computer Science, including logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • To analyse problems in computational term, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • To evaluate and apply information technology analytically to solve problems.
  • To communicate ideas well by utilising appliances and devices throughout all areas of the curriculum.

We aim to raise the standards of the pupils’ abilities in the three areas of:

  • Digital Literacy
  • Information Technology
  • Computer Science
