Spring 2 Blog

Year1 have had another busy and exciting term! Class 1 performed their class assembly reflecting on all the reasons God is amazing.

The children enjoyed reading ‘Whatever Next’. We wrote a character description to describe baby bear and we reflected on how different characters felt in the story.  To celebrate World Book Day we read ‘Lizzie and the Birds’. We had fun writing our own spells to cast on Buster, which are displayed in our classroom, along with the birds we created. During Shakespeare week, we learnt about ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and wrote descriptions of a fairy kingdom. We also made some beautiful ‘Love in Idleness’ flowers.

In Maths, we have been having fun counting in 2s, 5s and 10s; we really enjoyed singing the songs. We have also been working on addition and subtraction up to twenty and writing number sentences. We have been doing some practical work on measuring – we enjoyed going outside and measuring the playground. We have also been weighing objects in our classroom and thinking about capacity.

Our focus in Religion for Spring 1 has been "Families and Celebrations".  We have been learning more about Jesus and his family.   In Spring 2 we have been ‘Following Jesus’ and learning about the Easter Story and we have started rehearsing for our Easter service.

In Geography, we have learnt about Kenya.  We went on a virtual safari and thought about what we would take with us.  We compared our lives to the lives of those in Kenya and we created some beautiful African artwork.

Our Science topic was Everyday Materials.  We learnt about different materials and their properties.  We carried out an investigation to find out which materials are waterproof.

We have also started our Computing lessons. We have been working on improving our basic skills and thinking about how to keep safe online.

We are very excited to perform our Easter Service on Thursday 18th April.
