Autumn 2

Autumn 2 was a very busy and exciting term in Nursery.

The theme for this year’s Art Exhibition was “inspirational women” and we learnt about the fabulous children’s author, Sue Hendra. We enjoyed lots of her books, including, Barry the Fish with Fingers and Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. We created our own alien masterpieces based on one of our favourite books, Wanda and the Alien. To create our artwork we used lots of different creative media including prints, oil pastels, paints and collage materials.

We were very excited to receive a box full of flower bulbs from “Bulbs4Kids” which kept us very busy in our outdoor area. We loved wearing our wellies and digging in the soil and spotted lots of worms as we worked. We can’t wait to see the flowers grow in spring.

Our next topic was “Celebrations” and our role play area was transformed into a special birthday party room complete with colourful bunting and lots of balloons! We had lots of fun pretending to prepare for a party, including: making and writing birthday party invitations and cards; making play dough birthday cakes; singing “Happy Birthday” and playing some party games! We also learnt about the celebration of “Bonfire Night” and created some super bonfire and firework pictures.

Our last few weeks of term were focused on our preparations for our Christmas celebrations. Our role play area was decorated with lots of sparkly tinsel and we had our very own Christmas tree! We made a fabulous Christmas card for our families and created some beautiful Christmas tree decorations. We were given a very special homework – to create special Christmas party hats. We had a Christmas ha parade around the Reception classroom which was great fun!

In Religion we listened to the story of “The Nativity” and learnt that God sent us a very special baby – His son, Jesus. Our Christmas performance of “Stable by Starlight” certainly helped us to remember the story of the very first Christmas! We had a wonderful time learning all the songs and dances for the show and performed for our families with great enthusiasm. Our teachers were incredibly proud of our fantastic performances.

We ended the term with a fantastic Christmas party. During the morning an amazing entertainer, Michelle, came in to school and we danced and played lots of fun party games. A very special visitor then came in to school – Father Christmas! We all got to speak to him and he gave everyone a present!  We then had some special party food and played ‘Pass the Parcel.’ We had a wonderful Christmas party day
